HDgraphics didn't really differ from the original game at all, only slight resolution improvement, while DE has completely reskinned everything. Thenew AI will cheat less (if at all; AoE2 DE AI does not cheat on any level) and will take advantage of their civ's full tech tree (apparently the original AoE3 AI completely disregarded certain units/techs/buildings even when they would be advantageous in a given lineup). The devs said that the AI definitely is playing a lot smarter.
